Artist's Description

Some time ago I won an old Voigtländer 6×9 folding camera on ebay for $30 posted. It arrived at 2PM one day soon after—so I spent the afternoon removing the lens and cleaning the shutter, as the glass had some haze and the slow speeds were sticking—and by 8PM that night, I had a perfectly working 75 year old folding camera. But after using it once or twice, it sat unloved as other arrivals usurped its place in my fickle affections.

Recently I pulled it out of the cabinet, checked it over and ran a few films though it, and I’ve loved the results I’ve seen so far. It’s been accompanying me regularly, lately, as I’ve come to appreciate the wonders of 6×9 image quality from a camera you can fold up and put in your coat pocket (and in Tasmania, coats are a regular fixture in Winter). And I have, after all, always loved Voigtländers…

There have been some subdivisions along the road this deserted house is located on, recently, so sadly, I think its days sitting amidst the old hops fields will soon be numbered.

Camera: Circa 1937 Voigtländer Bessa medium format 6×9 scale focus folding camera.
Lens: Voigtländer 110mm Voigtar f/4.5.
Film: ILFORD Pan F Plus ISO 50 black & white roll film @ EI 25.
Tripod and self timer used.
Processed in ILFORD ID-11 developer @ 20C for 13.5 minutes
