Artist's Description

Rainbow Row is a well known area of Charleston, SC, where a number of row homes are painted in shades of pastels. The story behind this is that during slave days, the homes were painted different colors to identify them to slaves that could not read. Thus the butcher would tell the employee making a delivery to take the order to the green house or the pink house. The theme is now often repeated in the area with new construction. Here a row of homes near the beach reflects this rainbow row heritage.
