To swim in its own sea

If the ocean could swim in its own sea,
if it could feel its own wave breaking over its shoulders
and taste the foam of the water
If a fingertip could touch its own fingertip,
if sound could hear its own sound for the first time

Constantly the universe strives to contact itself;
through Love only
is it able to do so, for
Love is gratitude, it is
recognizing the familiar energy
separated only by bodies,
a physical division of one energy
into two beings.
Through eyes the energy can see itself,
through smiles and laughter
it can express its gratitude for
the energy it recognizes,

which, in turn, proves its own existence,
as the universe is, after all,
making contact with itself
as the ocean wants to swim in its own sea.

It is the ultimate discovery,
as one soul contacts another,
contacts itself,
that piece of the universe says,
“I found you. Here we are.”

Only through love, which is gratitude,
is existence possible.

To swim in its own sea
