The Abyss

The darkness climbs over me
And all light that was is no longer
The depth of its darkness echoes against a wall I cannot see
A surface that cannot be touched
And if it could be felt, it would not be warm
I think it would be a clammy cold even though I envision flames of fire nearby
There is nothing to hold
Nothing to touch
Nothing to hear except my thoughts which are tormented
And the darkness seeking more space to consume
So I stay
In this state of being which is less than surviving
Unable to move
Not able to see
In this blackness of time and space
That is void of meaning outside of despair
It leaks into its own self
Absorbing all hope
Suffocating any dreams
Quieting all whispers
I am here
Wherever that is
In this abyss
