Artist's Description

On this day we rode for 4 hours through the Mayan jungle in Belize, South America. In some cases our guide Rigo had to use his machete to cut a way through thick branches and vines which had grown across the paths . We were the first trip there for 3 months and the rains had created some difficult trails. We left our horses at the top trail and had to hike down about 200 ft to reach this waterfall where we stopped to have a swim followed by a picnic lunch. It was very hot and humid but the water was alpine cold. So refreshing. The tropical forests were vibrantly rich in brilliant shades of green . I saw two beautiful blue morpho butterflies, heard howler monkeys and came across jaguar tracks on the next 3 hours of trails back to our cabanas on the forest edge. The cabanas were lit only by kerosene lamps, so I was never sure which ‘creature’ lurked around!! More of that later. , .
