Artist's Description

This is the early 20th century gate to Derwent dam which fellow redbubble friend Jason Connolly and myself spent time at photographing early last month. It was unfortunate that the gate was shut. There is a plaque inside the gate room to commemorate the engineers and construction workers that built this beautiful dam, and especially those who lost their lives in its construction. There is a plaque also to those who were involved in the WW2 Bouncing Bomb practice which took place on Derwent reservoir by the 617 “Dambusters” Squadron before it was used behind enemy lines in Germany and at other points of the war, such as the Battle of the Bismarck Sea.

This is a HDR image combining 6 bracketed shots using Photomatix Pro for Macs. Slight adjustments in lighting and contrast were done using the enhanced details tool.
