America Forgotten

As we watch our children grow,
Becoming the leaders and curers we know,
We Can take pride that we are on American soil.

As we take a ride throughout our land,
Never seeing the poverty that’s so sad,
Proud that we are a country that could band,
To solve hunger and homelessness in our land.

To live where we know are children are safe,
No gangs or class rage,
As we watch other Nations suffer with gun play,
We can be proud that we take care of our own today.

Our freedom flies high and proud,
Even to express ourselves and turn the flag upside down,
Our Constitution protects that right, it’s known,
So that no one can say leave because we might not condone.

This is America, the superpower of the world,
Where our people are free and equality abounds,
And then we open our eyes and look around,
No longer are our minds bound.

As we remember that this is what we want for over there,
It doesn’t seem to matter that we don’t even have that here,
And as far as ‘Insurgents’, ask England, they’re everywhere,
Except for where our children are, over there.

No matter what is said, Iraq is not our land,
America is ours and we need to take pride,
Think of the homeless and needy here that would love a helping hand,
While we neglect our own to give to people who do not even want us on their land.

Instead of Homeland Security,
We need Homeland Repair,
And a President who cares about the priorities,
Of the people over here.

Artist's Description

It saddens me to hear every night on the news about another American who has lost their life in Iraq. To read the paper and find out that we are wasting billions of dollars trying to make a country like America while we lose America and hear that Iraq has billions of dollars socked away in not only banks over there but over here on U.S. Soil as well. Makes me want to ask, "Why are we spending American money that should be for American problems on a country who won’t even spend their own money to fix themselves. I have visited major cities throughout this country and have talked to a number of homeless people and families and my heart goes out to them, because they are not what the majority of people in this country think, they are not pulling scams or lazy, most would give their right arm for real work. I guess what I’m trying to say is we have to think of America first and fix it so that we can stand proud in the eyes of the world because our country does care for its people first and foremost!
I would also like to apologize for my absence, it is not due to boredom, you guys are some of the most talented people on this dang internet contraption. It’s just that our beautiful Great Dane Ballou has Wobbler’s and cannot get around anymore so we’ve been helping her. She is mentally there full and alert and loves to cuddle, which is pretty much all she can do now, but she loves it. This is killing us only because the Vet’s we take her too all snap one decision out-Put her down, which to my wife and me is no option, Ballou is in no pain and fully aware. Also an old nerve injury from 2001 when I used to drive trucks has decided to make itself a part of my life again, so I now walk with a cane when I can and spend a lot of time finding ways to make it through the pain. Thank you for everyone of you and the encouragement you have given me and others. I will keep on writing and I hope you all keep on reading. Love Brad
