Artist's Description

I found a family of Yellow-belied Sapsuckers a few weeks ago. The family consisted of a male (which is posted), a female, and about four juveniles. They had about eight different drilling hole stations with sap flowing from them. They were all in a relatively small area which provided excellent viewing and photo opportunities.

I have some more nice shots of the male and juvies that I will post in the future. The female was very skiddish and my shots were not up to my posting standards though. Well, I hope you enjoy this male sapsucker because I have more for the future. ;)

This was taken in Ithaca NY.

The scientific name for this species is: Sphyrapicus varius.
