Artist's Description

Silsby Engine #843 is one of only about 40 units that remain of Silsby’s 1875 model. The 1875 was the ninth and final model change manufactured by Silsby Manufacturing Co. They built about 2,500 units of this model steam engine. Unit 843 was probably built in about 1885 or 1886.

The Silsby fire engines used an innovative “rotary” pump to deliver water to the fires.

Number 843 belongs to the Toledo Ohio Firefighters Museum. It was there that I photographed it using my Konika-Minolta DiMage A2 DSLR camera set at f 2.8 and ISO 200. The exposure here was 1/50 sec. with flash.

See here for a brief history of the Silsby Manufacturing Co.
