In Her Own Write

I wrote myself into her story,
Selfishly of course.
I scribbled my steps
Swiftly past the cracks;
She wrote
“only a fool would step there”.

I was penciled in perfectly.
She never noticed me there,
By the Gazebo.
She wandered,
Unaware that I was in her story.
A tale of blind romance;
Words can take you away -
Into the Authors’
Castle in the sky.

She may write on
Without knowing
Any of this.
But come a thickened plot,
She will turn back
And see me there -
Hopelessly hopeful,
That just maybe,
She will invite me
Into her tale..

.
.
.
.

Coda:
Many years later
I found out
She threw the story in the bin.
Not completely forgotten,
She started again.
This time she used a typewriter.
I made my way in.
I sat waiting –
Between the ?uestion Mark key
& the right SHIFT key (the one that nobody uses)
Made you look !
