Heaven's War

With wings spread my body dances and skips through the cool night air. I feel the rush of the wind against my face as I spin, twirl and dance upon the current between the clouds. The moon glistens on the ripples of the ocean below beaming blue tremors of light. I imagine the twinkle in the corner of your eye as I draw breath to my tired body. My wings falter as I feel you longing for me. Quivering with the anticipation of our reunion I reach down and run my fingers through the white tipped waves and feel the salty water spray against my face. I rotate my weary body and allow the tips of my wings to fall into the cool blue water for just a moment. As I approach the beach my feet fall hard upon the silvery soft sand and my tattered wings extend to brace me from falling. I take a deep breath and begin to run towards your house. Up the glistening dunes eyes fixed upon the white porch in the distance. I look for you my love, my life. I hear your laughter as I clamber up the wooden steps one by one towards your door. Two long years I have been trapped in the solitude of war, longing for this moment. As I reach for the handle the door creaks open and I gaze upon your face beaming in the moonlight. You softly touch the edge of my sleeve and I fall face first into the ruffles of your worn shirt. The smell of your warmth circles the edges of my nose as I embrace you in my arms. Gently you brush the curls from my face. I look into your eyes and see my reflection capturing the moment. Your lips press against mine and I melt into you. Worn by my travels my body begins to fall, you sweep me from my feet and into your arms. Together, entwined, worn old wings draped around you I softly whisper, “I’m Home” and nestle my head into your chest. You place another kiss upon my lips and I know that this isn’t the end of my journey it is just the beginning. The war is upon us and after this tender moment I must change your world forever.

Artist's Description

A moment in time. Captured by fantasy, Intrigued by love and divided by war. What do you think of this? Would love everyone’s honest comments? This concept has danced in my mind for the last few years not sure if I should branch away from poetry and maybe write more.
