A scarlet “Nuit d’Ete” semi-cactus dahlia which blooms in late summer in our garden. It is a “nodding” dahlia, so photographing it can be quite difficult, as the light falls on its back , not on its “face”. It grows in a planter and is so tall that I have the impression, when photographing it, that I am being drawn into it. I imagine that this is how the bees and butterflies feel and it must be equivalent to how we would feel entering some plush hotel with deep pile carpets that you just sink into! Unfortunately bees are blind to the colour, red, so this beautiful flower would just appear black to them. Camera details: Canon PowerShot S3 IS, Supermacro setting
