David from Utah was brave enough to leap across the gap which separates Hanging Rock from the main cliff.
Although the gap is only around 0.5m wide, the landing on the other side is rocky, uneven, and scattered with stones. An awkward landing and slip would result in a fatal fall over the cliff’s edge.
Needless to say his wife Sandy couldn’t look, and on-lookers Mike and Mike held their breaths while David attempted the leap.
This photo shows Dave triumphant, stick in hand, having successfully jumped onto the rock.
Of course then he had to jump back across…
This act of courage is definitely one for the young and not for the faint-hearted.
Hanging Rock is a huge overhanging block of sandstone, over 100m high, which has become detached from the main cliff and juts out over the Grose Valley in Blue Mountains National Park.
