The Times It Made Sense

When I was a kid I used to think a lot about my future. When I got a little older I read somewhere that the future changes every time you look at it. Now I believe that I must have thought of all the fun and exciting futures, and that it’s the reason why I’m stuck with this one. And when I was kid, I thought that the definition of a martyr was someone who easily accepts defeat. Later on, I found out that a martyr is a victim. Now I’m not sure they are any different because people tell me that I, alone, is in charge of my destiny.

My mother dragged me to church last Sunday, and despite my disposition, I was saved. The pastor said that the inflictions dealt by life are our devils. He said that an addiction is a devil; a financial shortcoming is a devil; an illness is a devil. He says name your devil and the Almighty will rid you of it. I got down on my knees that night to pray and when the Good Lord ask me to name my devil, I told him that my devil was me.
