neural circuits

same day different shit or was it new day same shit
it could’ve been the Oxycontin or the scopolamine-
unwillingly forcing trips to a different dimension inside a thousand heads
there’s a confederacy on the sun
an oligarchy for our grandsons
tasteless re-tellings of the day we first met to her friends and family
her scent
this apartment
flickering candles and solemn vows
the dark horse whipped under a moonlight fire
blue-green eyes watch as they multiply among the walls and shadows
who is she again
who were we?
an us..
entwined in the unfortunate fate of the carnal wants and needs
though she’d kneel to the man from leeds
she’ll wait for you to call
to listen to the sound of your nervous masked by confidence voice
jokes cracked like a can of anthrax
infectious to her vocal cords perpetuating that laugh..
sweet and elegant
enter the scene with this life blurring
to two hands around a neck
tears exit the shadow’s eyes
did she even matter?
was she worth the laughter?
from the late night phoning
or the mid-night moaning
with her eyes piercing into your soul
with a sleek smile underneath the sheets
and a tattoo of three different musical clefts splattered across her feet

and yet she still smiles to the sound of your repugnant voice
her hand seems fit yours
this being it tells you more than you’ll ever remember to comprehend and perhaps for a second you’ll understand it all-
freezing these neural circuits to this perception of time
a whole lifetime can be lived in a second

whose life would you see? Your own? or would you simply choose something more memorable
