Sweet Dreams Papa

The sun rays reached Jim’s eyes from a crack through the curtains, with a few quick blinks he slowly got up. Pushing his scrawny little body forward and rubbing his eyes, he began to stretch, his arms first, then his neck, then finally his legs. Jim then sat back down on the bed, for a while he starred at the window almost cursing it for waking him up. He turned to look at his alarm clock only to find it wasn’t working, “Screw you, you useless paperweight.” Jim extended his legs and trudged to the bathroom to brush his teeth, to his dismay not only was there no tooth paste but his tooth brush was missing. With a groggy sigh he said “I hate my life,” Jim decided to shower instead, making sure the pressure wasn’t too high to wake up his father in case he was still asleep. Turning the knob he simultaneously stepped in, only to jump back out with a little squeak “Damn that’s cold,” grabbing a towel and drying himself he began to walk back to his room. Jim spotted his cell phone on his nightstand and picked it up, Jim finally started to cry from the overwhelming texts he got from his class mates. “Why don’t you choose today you die,” “You should’ve never been born,” “You’re gonna die alone,” “Weirdo,” but finally he came to one that surprised him. Jim was wide eyed and excited for his cell phone plan had sent him a message that threw him to check his calendar which affirmed his glee. Running upstairs not sparing his footsteps, almost leaping towards his father’s room, he slowly turned the knob and peaked in to find his father still sleeping. Whispering softly “Papa…Papa…” no answer not even a snore, so he tried again louder this time “Papa…Dad…!” He came closer and closer to the bed being cautious not to startle his father, “Dad…Dad…!” Jim was now at the bed looking over to his father, while slowly nudging his father’s chest he said “Dad it’s my birthday, wake up, let’s go to Disneyland.” Papa didn’t wake up, not even flinch… not even breathe.
