Artist's Description

oil on board

Howgate has seen several transformations over the years, the most recent being the addition of a new housing development. The village has associations with Dr John Brown’s “Rab & his Friends”. A network of minor roads give access to Gladhouse, Roseberry and Edgelaw Reservoirs, Carrington and Temple Villages. The latter was the chief Scottish seat for the Knights Templar until the order was suppressed in 1312, the property then passed to the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem. The labyrinth of small roads is well worth exploring – but take a good large-scale map!

Toward the end of a bracing winter’s day with the family, a glorious sunset!

Note: the original painting 50cm x 75cm is already sold to a private collection
