Artist's Description

acrylic on canvas 2007

Yair Hill Forest lies south of Caddonfoot. The road to Selkirk crosses the River Tweed opposite Fairnielee Farm, but a minor road continues downstream on the north side of the river until its confluence with Ettrick Water. The stretch of river depicted here is viewed from opposite Raelees Wood and is much favoured by salmon fishers. Upstream from Caddonfoot, and south of the river, runs the minor road formerly favoured by Scott en route to Ashiesteil, then passing below Elibank Castle, former home of Muckle-Moo’ed Meg, and on via Traquair and Cardrona to Peebles.
I sketched this just as the leaves were beginning to turn and the water was running fairly high.

Note: the original painting 60cm x 80cm is for sale – enquire by bubblemail direct to Bill Cowe
