Artist's Description

It’s amazing how fast photographers move when the word ‘fog’ or ‘mist’ is mentioned. It’s 6am and sleepy heads were stirring in the old teachers cottage where a group of us were staying during the Mt Wilson & Mt Irvine Photography and Art Exhibition. We were all exhausted after setting up and manning the exhibition however when the word came out that there was ‘fog in The Avenue’ – everyone soon jumped to life, grabbed cameras and keys and were off in a flash to find the best foggy shots. Me, with hair still wet from the shower, donned my parka and joined in. We all came up with some amazing photos and this is just one. I know I’ve captured a similar shot before but I can never resist this spot in the mist … it adds that intrigue that this huge dead tree and faithful tree ferns deserve. This tree is massive – the tree ferns must be over 7 metres in height and are dwarfed by this giant. What a magnificent tree it once must have been.

In my haste I grabbed the wrong camera however am very pleased with the result. Taken with the Nikon D700, Nikkor 105mm macro lens, 1/640 sec, F2,8, ISO 640, -0.3 bias, hand held at 105 mm.
