This old cottage is located at the Turondale turnoff on the road that leads from Sofala to Hill End. I believe it was once an old inn but today is locked with signs warning the inquisitive (like me) to stay outside the barbed wire fence. This home would date back to the gold rush era of the mid 1800s and no doubt would have many stories to tell. My dad once took me to a cottage similar to this when I was in my teens and there were stories that bushrangers had stopped by with one firing a bullet through the floor – if this story sounds familiar to others I would love to know if it is the same spot we stopped at many years ago.
