Artist's Description

We headed off early from Blackheath in the Blue Mountains, fumbling our way through the heavy fog that often blankets this area and onto Lithgow at the base of the pass. The fog lifted a little replaced by fine misty rain … still we pushed on past the power stations and onto the Mudgee Road. Here we passed through the small hamlet of Cullen Bullen and at Capertee we turned right, heading for Glen Davis. The sealed road wound through a forest of gums and pines before descending steadily to the Capertee Valley floor. Our excitement began to grow as we glimpsed shear sandstone cliffs and monoliths reaching for the sky. Further on the road turned to gravel and the weather cleared to glimpses of sunshine amongst wisps of fog. We stopped many times to capture the beauty we were witnessing, to preserve it for our record and to share with others less fortunate in being able to witness this beauty first hand.
