Artist's Description

Once across the little bridge and timber boardwalk, the path then climbs upward and onward. For those who can’t make the climb, then you can follow a beaten path along the water’s edge however it may be difficult sometimes at high tide to get through this way. The Green Point Reserve is where my children roamed when growing up, where they played, got up to mischief, running wild, camping out … dog (Oscar) running wild with them. In school holidays a couple of mothers would pack a picnic lunch and gather the children of the street and off we would go, hiking along the foreshore and exploring the bush. When local developers tried to build on the reserve there was public outcry – to us this land was sacred to the local people and should always be reserved for the public to enjoy. A band of dedicated volunteers maintain the paths and timber walkways and steps and we are forever grateful. Further back in the bush is a concrete cycle way linking Valentine to Belmont, but then that’s another story….
