Watercolour on 140 lb. Arches cold press. 18"X30"
This is one of my largest watercolour paintings. I should have stretched the paper first, but instead wet both sides and worked on a large piece of gator board without even taping it down. Surprisingly, I was able to keep it fairly flat and with pressing, it came out very well (just lucky this time, I think).
Original is available for sale
I remember hollyhocks so clearly in my child’s eye. I grew up in England, and our garden was filled with these tall stately flowers. We still see them in Canada but not nearly to the same degree, so to paint them was like travelling back in time for me, but I am not saying how far back.
