Artist's Description

A collage of daily scenes at Kawasaki Daishi, a Buddhist temple in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. I shot these scenes that include a 5-tier pagoda, Dharma dolls to ward off bad spirits, giant chochin or paper lantern, wooden vermillion bridge, hands lighting incense to cleanse the body, omikuji or paper fortune with prediction of good luck, and a golden Buddha statue to which I added the text “Nippon Daisuki” meaning “I love Japan”. Kawasaki Daishi is near where I live so I sometimes visit there—it’s a lovely place, always lively and full of people, with friendly monks and an energetic community surrounding the temple grounds. So happy to share scenes from this favorite place with you!
