Artist's Description

Arrowleaf Balsam Root (Balsamorhiza sagittata) Sunflower Family. An almost leafless stalk with 1 large bright yellow flower head at tip grows from a basal cluster of large silvery-gray leaves covered with felt-like hairs. Flower heads are 4-5" wide. Grows on open hillsides and flats in grasslands, sagebrush, or open pine forest.

Wildflowers grow in abundance in my neighborhood during spring and summer. This arrowleaf balsam root is a golden glow along the rural roadside in a sagebrush and juniper environment. Way out west in Eastern Oregon.
