The “Janare” belong to the legends of the civilization of Benevento (in southern Italy) and of samnitic traditions.

The Jamara was able to make spells and magical potions.
The legend says that they use to meet under a walnut tree in the Strait of Barba, near Benevento, where the Sabato river flows. Indeed, the name of the river should derive just from the word “Sabba” which indicated the feasts in which the witches meet.
