Artist's Description

Laterna is the Greek version of a portable barrel organ, activated by a wooden cylinder which is pinned with several thousands little nails; every nail being a musical note. It was extremely popular in Greece as late as the early 1950s. Depicted here is one of the last surviving pieces (Ermou str., Athens, November 1, 2008).
