Artist's Description

This is a gallery of black ash baskets made by Renee Wasson Dillard, Odawa Basket Maker from Michigan. Wasson starts her basket making process from the very beginning of harvesting a log, pounding the growth rings to get the splints, splitting and shaving. After this process she makes the baskets with the splints she has prepared. Wasson is well known for her knowledge of the culture and the old way to make Native American baskets. The photo gallery was taken by photographer Debbie Peterson / Beekokweh.
