To Laura

I wonder if I would feel
Different about you
If you never left?

If you hadn’t chosen him
Over us, the way you did
If you acted as a mother should

But as I sit here today
I see that you were never really
There for me anyway

I was so young when you left
That I don’t know who you are
I probably never did

When I say you won’t be invited
To the wedding that won’t happen any time soon
You should know that this is why

Why would I invite a stranger
To one of the most important moments
Of my life?

My father says I’ll regret my decision
But I know I won’t, any more then you do yours
If you did you would have stuck around

As it goes I’m doing fine on my own
I am at peace with my demons
And I like it that way

So please understand
That it was you who decided
That it would end this way.
