Artist's Description

For a long time I never looked deeper into this image. It has been one of my most favoured and viewed art work on this website.I think now is the time for me to delve into it deeper,to gain some insight.
This image has evoked many different responses from people from all over the world over the last few years. One individual told me that it reminded him of the ghost of someone he lost at sea.Other people feel it represents life and death and the passing over and going to the light. Alot of people refer to the oil rig as a spaceship and the sense of alien life somewhere out there.Others refer it to the rocket taking off!
To me it was a mild Autumn morning around 1am at the beach and a friend he crouched in front of the camera and I snapped this image.I think it reflects my soul and where it was situated at the time.I was new to photography but I was also at another crossroads in my life.I also had just closed a chapter to a very horrific time in my life that required all my strength to conquer it.It had changed me.
The time I took this photo I was enjoying the company but i also had alot on my mind about where my future was headed.
My life was never the same after this photo was taken because new avenues were rapidly approaching my life.Nothing was in my control at this time in my life.In a way it was all up to the universe & I had no say in it.Symbolically in a way I got swept out to sea & ended up on new shores!haha
It was a rough journey, similar to a cork bobbing in the ocean but I found my feet again.
Now that I reflect back,it was a turning point for me & my personal development both as a artist and a human being & my attitudes towards creating, love & lifes twists & turns. It also represents solitude, my inner strength & resilience to adversity.I am known to walk the road less travelled.
It also depicts a going towards the light of this journey which is called Life…and sometimes we turn our back on that light….solitude & getting lost trying to find ourselves and who we are…what is our purpose?what will we leave behind?what imprint are we already making on this journey?
