The Lane Oft Travelled

I remember you and I,
Playing on the lawn for the first time,
Laughing and crying as the golden arch of water
Rose and fell.

I remember, you and I,
Waltzing down the lane
With a bright blue sky and rusty trees accompanying,
And how you swam for both of us
In the crystalline ford.

I remember you, and I,
Your happy countenance as I kicked the ball,
How you so skilfully charged it down and,
Pausing only for the perfect picture,
Rushed back again triumphant,
A happy bundle,
Two happy bundles.

I, remember, you and i
With gladness the joy found in a twig,
With Sadness the hurt I felt at berating you
(Though time-on-end I let you loose when others would not
(Abetting your gluttonous nature (your mischievous spirit))).
How we chuckled in our different ways together,
At a shared joke,
A special moment repeated through the years,
Null the barriers and differences.

Now each memory pricks my eye and slowly oh so slowly corrodes my soul into loathing of anything everything,
But you.
You were my best friend and a sibling to an only child,
And you listened to what you could not,
But still did, understand, and helped me through dark times.
I loved you,
Love you,
And cherish your memory,
As I remember:
You and I.
