Artist's Description

One of hundreds of ruined farm houses in South Australia where early settlers tried to carve out a living from crop-growing on the drought-prone land .
In 1865 the SA Government sent the Surveyor General, G.M.Goyder to examine the drought-stricken country and produce a map showing the “line of demarcation up to which rainfall extended and beyond which drought prevailed”. This line on the map became known as “Goyder’s line of rainfall”.
It is north of this line that most of the homestead ruins are to be found.

This ruin is on the western side of the ramparts of the Flinders Ranges.
