Fallen

Once strong and nobel, amongst younger peers
He stood strong and erect, silent through the years
arms stretching high to the sky.
Gently upon is fingers the bird lights
and replies to his whispers of a safe nesting place.

Now crouching humbly, broken and bent
as storms stripped and ripped the strength
from his youthful arms and trunk.
The nestling arms lay broken anround
in a decaying world around him.
Ice and snow cover the aged fallen one.
Flakes shimmer and dance around in celebration
of his demise, mocking his youth.

He’s just another beaten and battered by time,
broken to rest, and decay, and nurture the remaining life all around.

Fallen
