Hunter G9 Photo Reconnaissance aircraft, swallowed a flock of birds over the Radfan Mountains in Aden. Some of them finished up in the fuel tank in the wing, the rest stripped all the compressor blades from the engine, which caused major failure of the turbine. Having plenty of altitude the the pilot got back to base and dead sticked it on to the runway. He said that if he could have seen the extent of the damage he would have bailed out. The aircraft was a write off, due to the act that the airframe distorted with a big twang when we took the empanage off.
