" OH "

Once there was an ogre who ruled a promising land.
The land was full of cabbages and lov’ly wishing wells.
On the land there was a blight: The blight of public power.
The natives they just sat and moaned: Moaned the days away.
Beguiled the rich they prospered all, under governmental rule.
Tongue tied and dishevelled the paupers suffered more.

The ogres name was Cain, his common working theme.
around himself he built his tower [power].
To rule and dictate his only aim.
Beneath his throne he could not see;
the anguish he had caused.
Discarded people laughed and cried at powers destiny.

Associates, friends and simple folk, who aided his ascent:
Hid from truth and could not speak, of politics darkened ways,
of hidden handshakes behind closed doors:
Or “Look after him, he has paid the fare”.
No civic pride just lost L-amour:
Such was the plight of a promising land in 1992.

The ogres vision, blunted and weak
failed to see the nuclear waste,
passed State finances to foreign banks,
left his people to slowly starve
and watched his youth depart.
He cut the health bills, brought mental illness to the fore.

The ogre was ruling then: Alas he’s ruling now.
He rules with might, though lack of sight.
Ruled the land and broke the spine of a very promising land.
It’s hungry turned from anguish, to rebellious home made bombs:
The ogre and his colleagues, to foreign shores departed;
sun, sand and lady friends
another promising land.
