If you are lucky enough to be flying in a plane at sunset, and climb just above a low-level, solid bank of clouds, with just a few higher level clouds in the right places, you can witness one of these special sunsets. I have also seen similar views on the US Pacific coast, where the cliffs rising above the ocean are often high over the “marine layer” of fog that completely obscures the water. Not seeing any bit of “earth”, and especially signs of human habitation, along with reflected colors both above and below you, is remarkably peaceful and beautiful. This is my impression of such views.

Created initially in Apophysis 7×15b as an abstract fractal with Fx plugins Julia3Dz, postbwraps2 and postmirror y, and adjusting the weight of Tx6 to 6, based on the tutorial Volume 57-Signum by TsukinoHikari20 on DA in Apophysis Tutorial Fun group. After creating the Apo fractal image, I decided to blend it with a gradient background in GIMP v2.8, and then used the smudge tool to smear the resulting colors in a form of digital painting reminiscent of fingerpainting. Best if viewed larger.
