What has Redbubble done for me?

Why Redbubble? What to say?

I am a sixty five year old man; a retired school teacher since 1998. I have never had problems filling my time since I retired; I am always making or repairing or building something. I am the proverbial “Jack of all trades and master of none”. I live in a very rural location in Southeast Missouri and during the very hot and very cold part of the year as I have gotten older I have found that I don’t like the extremes of the weather.

As a result I have turned to the computer to fill my time during these occasions. I am so grateful to my beautiful and loving wife Julie who never utters a word of complaint about the time I spend online. She says that I worked hard for fifty five years and I deserve to do what ever I want with the time I have.

I tried MySpace, it was ok but generally the attitude and age of most people there was not really something that I found to hold my interest. I tried chat rooms, what can I say to someone I don’t know, have nothing in common with; and I could care less what the temperature or weather is like in Timbuckoo. I tried Picture Trail, a good site but I had a couple of bad experiences with (in my opinion) crazy people there that really soured the site for me. I am still a member and value some of the people there. I tried Flickr, another good site but hard to navigate and again not that much in common with enough of the members. There were more but a couple of “friends” from one of those sites kept bugging me to check out Redbubble. So finally I came here and joined and found Home.

I have been a member since March of 2008 and I truly have come home. The people I have met here from all over the world have been amazing. There have been a few that I have found that don’t share the same interests as I but, guess what; it doesn’t matter! They can to do what interests them and I can do the same without any hard feelings.

What really amazes me is that in all the time I have been here I have seen so few instances of unkind people or unkind statements that it just astonishes me. I did have one instance where someone decided they didn’t like me (I still have no idea what created that situation) but when they attempted to harass me I reported the incident to Redbubble support and It was taken care of. Now that is a first!!!

There are a few of you who will read this and understand more than others because you are friends of mine from other sites who were introduced to Redbubble by yours truly. In each case I think I can say with confidence that each of you is glad to be a part of the family. Please note that when I use the terms friends and family I mean it in the truest sense of the word. I have notice that there are some who drift in and out of the group of people that seems to have adopted me. That is not a bad thing at all. The really significant thing about Redbubble to me is that it has become a community and each member can find their own home within the community. The love of photography and the sharing of the work we enjoy is the binding factor, we have something in common that we can share and appreciate.

Sales? Yes I have had a few, more to myself than anyone else. Guess what some of my local friends are getting for Christmas! Some of you have really done well with sales and I suppose if I worked at it I could also. I value each time someone finds some piece of my work that is worthy enough for them to purchase but what I really value here is the friends and camaraderie we share. That is what I am here for and what I value and enjoy.

I spend several hours a day (four to six) on Redbubble and enjoy every minute of it. Some few of you have even accepted my ornery sense of humor and give me back as much as I dish out, Susan and Carolyn you know who you are. I AM HOME!
