Artist's Description

There once stood a very large Oak tree at the entrance to the small village of Kimmswick Missouri. The tree died but instead of cutting it down a local carver created this wooden work of art.
Kimmswick is about 20 miles south of St. Louis Missouri. It is a small town with around 100 residents and was founded in 1859 on the banks of the Mississippi River. The town is now a popular tourist destination, and features numerous antique and craft stores and country-style restaurants, several log cabins or homes and numerous old style homes.
They hold an annual Apple Butter Festival each fall where people can watch the apple butter being cooked outside over large open fires in large iron kettles being stirred with the old wooden apple butter paddles.
The tree carving depicts this apple butter festival.
