As most of you know I love to attempt to take extreme action shot images. I guess this has been the most extreme and I am a little surprised that we succeed!
The blur shape in the image is a 9mm pistol bullet traveling at 1000 to 1300 feet per second. My neighbor and friend Kenny told me if he stood in the shadow of his barn late in the afternoon and shot across the shadows he could actually see the bullet traveling. I arranged to set up a photo shoot to see if we could capture an image of this extremely fast moving object.
Surprisingly the human eye can see the bullet as a long copper colored streak but the camera is so fast its image is more like a blink of the eye? I was surprised the way this turned out!
I set my Nikon Camera on a tripod and set the shooting mode to continuous standing behind Kenny’s left shoulder. When Kenny heard the camera start clicking he started firing the semiautomatic pistol. The ghost like object in the shadow is the dust cloud from the first shot he fired.
I realize that many of you are anti-gun, however this was a photography project in a private, safe environment. Kenny and others in the neighborhood like to target shoot. We live in a very rural area where Kenny has built his own target range.
