Artist's Description

The distinctive Gateway Arch sits on the edge of the Mississippi River on the east side of down town St. Louis, Missouri USA. This national monument signifies that St. Louis was the “Gateway to the west” in the early pioneer days. The place where so may people/families came by boat, train, foot and wagons to buy provisions and join the wagon trains that headed west to the new wild western territories of the United States.

The Arch stands as a 630 foot tall and 630 foot wide at the base. It is a Inverted Weighted Catenary triangular in shape and the base is 54 feet on each side and it narrows to 17 foot on each side at the top. The Inverted Weighted Catenary geometric design which is one of the most stable of designs. The arch is the tallest national monument in the United States and the tallest stainless steel monument in the world. It is a stainless steel monument to these early settlers.

You can tell it is winter by the bare trees. In this part of the USA the sun sets in the south west rather than the west which make it perfect for this type of light reflection image.
I took this one from 15 miles out in the country with a Nikon D40X and a Nikon 300mm VR zoom lens.
