Artist's Description

DEPTFORD PINK
Dianthus armeria L.

Height: 6-24 inches
Family: Caryophyllaceae – Pink Family
Flowering Period: May, June, July
My Thanks to Lorilee for the identification.

This small delicate wild flower is about 1/4 inch in diameter. So small and delicate. It grows on the edge of the forest in open sunny areas.

We have so many different varieties of wild flowers in the woods and pasture areas of Southeast Missouri. The state is now sponsoring the creation of prairie natural environments to encourage the reclamation of the beauty of Missouri nature.
