Yesterday was another day

Closing her eyes she thought of yesterday and the things she set out to do but did not achieve. Invites to post, roses to prune, nails to file. All the things she uses to fill up her days. But yesterday, yesterday took another path, one she thought she had left far behind.

Entering the room she felt amazing, it seemed all eyes in the vast bright hall turned her way, male and female alike. Appreciating the effect she smoothed her skirt over her firm hips, the tight black leather hugging her thighs. Taking in her audience she spotted him, her eyes scanning the room until they rested upon the one she was searching for.
Flashing her brilliant white teeth his way she turned and headed for the bar. Leaning on the bar for a mere second and then there, the familiar warmth of him at her side.
Gin and Tonic thanks, no need for pleasantries they both know why they are here. Turning to face him she takes in the deep eyes, the wisp of hair brushing his cheek, his parted lips. He goes to speak but is drowned out by the sudden thundering applause.
Casting him an apologetic grin she makes her way to the front of the crowd, leaving him at the bar with her untouched gin.She knows he’ll have a fresh one waiting when she returns.

The applauded one is at the base of the podium waiting for his escort up the stairs to be introduced to his admirers. Touching his arm, a quick whisper of a greeting and up to the podium. Stepping forward she takes a breath and begins.

‘Good evening Ladies and Gentleman, as you know we are gathered here tonight to celebrate. A celebration which has been a long time in coming, please join me in welcoming Mr James Dupoe, the man behind the dream!’

Stepping back she lets her client take his much desired place at the front, ignoring the suggestive leer, she tunes out as he begins a no doubt long and boring speech. Not for the first time she wonders why she ever started this, and then catching those deep eyes she remembers when the play became second nature. Another thunderous round of applause startles her out of the daze and once again she takes her place at the podium.

‘Thank you all for coming tonight to celebrate with this brilliant man, the waiters will begin to circulate, please enjoy the drinks and have a wonderful evening.’

Turning to descend the stage the client is there waiting, clearly expecting her past gratitude, beyond him is the deep eyes with a fresh gin, always as predicted. Thanking the client and brushing past to except her drink she feels the familiar bewilderment, an elusive call first thing Monday morning will repair. As always the distant promise of a reoccurrence keeps them at bay.
