Artist's Description

Today Lance and I had the absolute pleasure to witness one of nature’s marvels – a mass of monarch butterflies feeding on a tree bursting with winter blossom (I think it was an almond tree). We were driving some country roads near Monarto, South Australia, looking for birds when we noticed a flurry of these beaut butterflies. We pulled over to spend an hour shooting and observing them, even laying on the ground to get a better view – see pic below! It was a wonderful experience – I have never seen so many Monarchs at once – surely this was a day we were in the right place at the right time! Taken with Canon 40D, Canon 70-200 2.8 IS with 2x extender, 30 July, 2011.
