The ShaniwarWada is one of the highlights of Pune’s history. An architectural marvel, its main door stands at 21 feet. The entrance faces the north, direction of the capital of India, Delhi and hence called " Delhi Darwaza" It remains unshaken and unaffected even though what lies beyond are now just debris from the fire that engulfed this mansion crumbling it to dust. Construction began in the 1730s. The mansion housed the royals of the area, the Peshwas. The fort was heavily guarded every night accounting to the political instability that persisted in those days and that explains the iron spikes on the main door!
