Solace

You’re like a deaf dog that doesn’t know his name
My feet tickle yours but your mouth stays the same
Neither corner turns up or down
I only want to make you smile
But you say you’d rather drown
I hate to drive that half block back up to my street
You like to smack instead of sweep me off my feet
I go around
Drumming on a steering wheel
Trying to drum up the courage
To take a chance on old bridge
I couldn’t quite see if
Had burned down from where I now stood
I’d been left unsatisfied
Craving something I would purge of
In any way I could think of
Until I hit the end of a troubled road
And found myself face to face with
Where I had come from
And finally
Almost
Was home
