Artist's Description

In a small village of Malawi in southern Africa, I caught some friendly and energetic Yao men doing a famous dance known as “Beni”. As I understand it, it is a dance that remembers past military endeavors. Dancers take painstaking effort to make their “uniforms” look real using threads and buttons. The Yao are originally from Mozambique and often go back and forth to visit family and friends, especially in the area near the Niassa Province of Mozambique where this pic was taken.
