Bringing home the peat, in years past, when the donkey-cart was a familiar sight on Irish roads. This is a sight that many old eyes will remember fondly.
Tired and hungry, he will be impatient to enjoy his meal of cabbage, spuds and maybe, if he is lucky, a piece of bacon. But it will be some hours before he will reach home yet.
In the background, the small piles of peat are neatly stacked like little pyramids – drying out in the field.
This fellow has loaded his cart and will now take the long road back home from the bog.
