Artist's Description

The Church of Our Saviour on the Spilled Blood derives its title from the fact that it is built on the spot where Alexander II was assassinated by a hand grenade in 1881. Construction began in 1883 under Alexander III, as a memorial to his father and was not completed until 1907.
The Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
