Artist's Description

Color adjusted, cropped

Location: Madison, WI

My old 4-H club would rake the lawns for elderly home owners every autumn as a community service project. The time that this photo was taken, Tim was having too much fun and didn’t want to go home. He dove and then buried himself in a giant leaf pile, so his parents had to dig him out.

The photo on top is the original, with Tim’s face centered. I cropped the second photo on the left side and top to place his face more on the Rule of Thirds. The cropped photo draws your eye across the frame to the face. I chose to crop this side, because of the tilt of the head giving it the appearance of looking to the right. Placing the face on the Rule Of Thirdes gives more feel of depth and dimension to the photo; the uncropped photo appears more flat.
