Artist's Description

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Cropped to landscape view for a challenge avatar

A friend had her flag out in observance of the U.S. Independence Day, in rememberance of her son who had been murdered for his paycheck while serving in the Army..

The first observance of Flag Day in the U.S. took place at the little one room Stony Hill School in Waubeka, Wisconsin, initiated by teacher Bernard Cigrand. Cigrand campaigned to make June 14 a national day of remembrance of the day in 1777 when the Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes. President Woodrow Wilson designated June 14 as Flag Day in 1916. Images of the American Flag on display, in ceremony or Flag Day observances.
